One of Filecoin’s launch goals has always been to have multiple independent protocol implementations to help secure the network. This update details the recent progress toward that goal, and next steps for each of the four major implementations.

Building a strong Security Culture in the Filecoin project has been one of our core goals from the beginning of the project, from creating bleeding edge, researched, and evaluated mathematical proofs that set the foundation for the critical operations executed in the Filecoin Protocol (e.g. Proof of Replication & Proof of Space Time), to building a culture of strong security habits, secure code development and testing, through working with multiple external security specialists, pentesters and researchers to audit our code and practices.

Filecoin Liftoff features a series of talks, panels, and workshops curated by the web3 community to chart the network’s future.

Over the last three weeks, members of the Filecoin community have participated in Phase 1 of the Slingshot competition, storing 450+ TiB of data through more than 350,000 storage deals on the network. To help the projects in this competition, a number of Filecoin community members gave talks on different topics related to storing data and building on Filecoin.

The Filecoin network boasts a unique economic design that aligns incentives among participants and rewards useful work by Filecoin miners. A key component of the Filecoin economy is block rewards, which subsidizes storage miners for providing reliable and useful storage capacity and maintaining the Filecoin blockchain.

Over the last two weeks, the Filecoin community has stored more than 170 TiB of valuable data through more than 200,000 storage deals on the Filecoin network. This data is being stored by participants in the Slingshot competition, a community competition for storage clients and developers to onboard valuable data to the Filecoin network.
